Tummy Tuck Surgery in Las Vegas Nevada – Abdominoplasty

A tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure that can be performed on both women and men over the age of eighteen who desire physical improvements that they could not achieve through diet and exercise alone. The procedure is frequently performed on women who have lost elasticity in their abdominal muscles due to multiple pregnancies. It also appeals to individuals who have gained and lost substantial amounts of fat, and subsequently have pockets of loose skin in the abdominal region. The surgery is always performed under general anesthesia.

About the Procedure

Also referred to as abdominoplasty, the objective of this cosmetic procedure is to tighten the muscles and skin in the abdominal area. Skin that has been overstretched is then cut and re-sectioned and pockets of fat removed, resulting in a firmer waistline.

There are two primary ways that the procedure is performed. With a full procedure, two incisions are necessary: one at waist level and one immediately above the pubic bone. The muscles and skin are then pulled together from each side toward the center of the person’s abdomen and stitched together with sutures.

The excess fatty tissue and skin is then amputated and the individual’s belly button is repositioned. The result of the procedure is a narrower waist, re-tightened muscles, and firm skin. The majority of patients who choose to have the surgery are pleased with the outcome.

The partial tummy tuck is a bit less complicated, but typically only firms the muscles and skin that are located directly below one’s waistline. Partial procedures of this type generally require only one incision.

The Ideal Candidate for Cosmetic Surgery

It is important to understand that a tummy tuck is not a replacement for weight loss. The best candidates for the procedure are those who are at an overall healthy weight, but cannot achieve a flat, firm stomach through exercise. Ideally, one should be within 20 pounds of his or her appropriate weight prior to scheduling this procedure. Those who are not are typically instructed to begin a diet and exercise program in order to get closer to their ideal weight before considering this type of surgery.

Recovery–What to Expect After Surgery

As with all cosmetic procedures, recovery time will vary from one patient to the next, but the average recovery time is approximately one month. For several days following the procedure, patients must use a walker to avoid stretching the incision area. Pain or swelling may be present as well; however, most physicians will prescribe medication for these symptoms.

Patients are instructed to refrain from any type of lifting or physical exercise for approximately three weeks after surgery. Most individuals can also expect slight scarring following a tummy tuck. Fortunately, there are simple procedures one can pursue in the future that will lessen the appearance of such scars. In addition, they typically fade as time goes on and although they will never go away completely, they become less noticeable over time.
